Rookies Ready For Fourth Round Comeback | LPGA

After two days of near-flawless play, Dewi Weber and Pauline Roussin they showed their first signs of struggle during the third round of the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational. In round one, the rookies cruised through the alternate-shot format with a bogey-free 5-under. However, they couldn’t recall that rhythm during Friday’s second alternate-shot round. Team French Fry and Apple Pie shot a 3-over 73 on Friday, with two birdies, one bogey and two double bogeys, and are tied for third at -11 overall.

“What really annoys the crap out of me, sorry, are these two double bogeys, because they could have been avoided,” Roussin said. “On that first par-3, I should have just aimed at the green and taken that bogey and just get out. I tried something. I mean, it was good to try, but maybe not the right moment. Then I blame myself on 18 because we were patient, and I like, I lost patience on that last shot.”

On the final hole of the day, Roussin missed the island green off the tee, putting the ball in the water. Weber found the center of the green from the drop zone, but the team still needed a two-putt to finish out the round. Despite their less-than-ideal finish, they believe it could have been worse.

“We didn’t play that bad, we just played fine,” Weber said. “We didn’t make that many birdies, but it’s not because we were hitting bad shots. Like some putts just weren’t holed even though maybe they wanted to. Overall, we hit two really bad shots, and they just happened to be on holes that we couldn’t really afford them.”

Heading into the final day of play, Weber and Roussin sit six strokes out of the lead. But they’re not worried about it, knowing they can perform when the tournament returns to the four-ball format. On Thursday, the two shot a 9-under in four-ball, with Roussin making her first LPGA Tour ace.

“We’re six shots behind? That’s nothing in four-ball,” Roussin said. “We know what to do. Fangs are out.”
